Abstract

Especially in the subject of Religious Education it is to be seen that the simple teaching of the curriculum is by far not enough. Ethic principles, moral attitudes and views and keeping in mind the world and environment as well as an appreciative social interaction of all people are crucial values that need contemporary reflection in order to ideally be acknowledged and accepted by students. Therefore, the teacher plays an important role, as they are responsible for designing lessons, choosing topics, materials and texts and thereby setting the scene for working and learning. However, the question arises in how far these options of choice are influenced by the own biography, particularly in terms of faith, whether there are any preferences or skeptical attitudes weighty and if the individual story is deliberately or latently of inluence. When this question is answered, new chances and possibilities are realizable whereas risks can be avoided for religious education as school subject and as academic field. This case study aims at answering the question of biographical influences of religious teachers in their subject as well as outlining the resulting consequences for Theology.
