Abstract

The Production of the “Testimonial Self ”: Memory, Anthropology and Literature Abstract This paper analyzes the various forms of production of the “testimonial self ”, which appear in a wide range of what I call testimonial products, located either in oral traditions, testimonial literature, oral history and/or memory analysis. The diversity of texts that are based on the use of testimonial sources covers a wide range of specialties, ranging from anthropology, literature, history, cinema or journalism. Each of these disciplinary practices have generated particular ways of producing testimonials. The paper analyzes the way in which some of them have made use of the testimony and the processes through which narratives are generated that produce a mirror effect between the biographical and the social. Finally, the way in which creative experiments appear in the most recent literature is addressed to further delve into this mirror effect, in particular, within the work of the writer Annie Ernaux.
