Abstract

y RY M. LOTMAN has recently been concerned with developing a cohesive doctrine for Eastern European "structuralist" criticism. While French "structuralists" have been establishing the parameters of individual systems and the relationships of these systems to their components, the Chairman of Russian Literature at the State University of Tartu has been specifying the limits of structuralism within semiotic studies.
