The purpose of this study was (a) to explore the appropriateness of using the Dyadic Adjustment Scale's (DAS) norming criteria to assess level of marital adjustment among a subgroup of Mexican Americans and (b) to identify any intragroup response variability among the Mexican-American subgroup. Thirty-nine Mexican-American couples (20 AMexican born and 19 U.S. born) were asked to complete the DAS. In general, the scores obtained by the Mexican-American sample differed significantly in the direction of adjustment from the scores reported for the norming sample. Significant intragroup differences between husbands and wives and U.S. born and Mexico-born couples were found. The implications of findings are discussed, and recommendations for future research are made.
