Abstract

Sagleda li se Novakov opus u cjelini, zamjetna je koherencija i odabir pripovjedača u prvom licu. Motivi se međusobno osvjetljuju, nadopunjuju ili pak osnažuju iz teksta u tekst. Okuplja ih autodijegetički pripovjedač koji se obračunava s drugima i sâm sa sobom proizvodeći scenu pisanja karakterističnu za pikarsku prozu. Njegov je opus stoga usporediv s angloameričkom prozom 1950-ih i 1960-ih tzv. gnjevnih mladih ljudi, ali i starijom, pikarskom tradicijom što se razabire kako na razini pojedinačnih djela tako i na razini opusa. Takav način motrenja metodološki nužno isključuje biografizam te Novaka čvršće vezuje uz tradiciju srednjovjekovne narodno-smjehovne kulture kako je opisuje M. Bahtin. Uz pomoć recentnih definicija i opisa pikareske u radu se oprimjeruju karakteristike pikarske proze na Novakovoj fikcionalnoj prozi, od profila protagonista i kronotopa do tipičnih motiva, zapleta i jezika. Neki od njih su: protagonist je uvijek, svojom voljom ili pod vanjskom prisilom, na rubovima društva, pripovjedačev je govor u prvome licu i dolazi "odozdo", iz svakodnevice, pri čemu navodi probleme u odnosu s privremenim gospodarom kojemu je ipak prisiljen služiti; junak je izgubio sve iluzije, ali ne i smisao za humor te ironiziranje vlastite životne situacije, dok je njegova životna priča puna lomova i neočekivanih obrata upotrebljavajući se u pripovijedanju kao poučna priča, napose zahvaljujući tome što pripovjedač naglašava raskorak između svojeg sadašnjeg znanja i zabluda, odnosno sljepila koje je njegovao kao junak.
