Phototropic Liquid Crystals (PtLC) are reviewed and discussed; a family of photoresponsive liquid crystal systems in which the irradiating light is the stimulus of interest that influences the molecular order, its magnitude and the occurrence of the mesophases. The utility of PtLCs for all-optical devices is demonstrated. Article not available.
