Children's ability to sort and classify is an important aspect of maths and science. A lot of early number work is based on sets of objects – counting them, matching the correct number to the set of objects, making a set of objects to match a given number. In science, children will be comparing, noting similarities and differences, describing observations and explaining their findings.
