The mortality rates of Transennella tantilla buried under 8 cm of sediment at the 0.0 tide level and at the 0.5 m tide level were determined. After 2 days at the lower level, mortality was 74% and after 11 days, 91%. Mortality at the higher tide level after 7 day s is approximately equal to burial at the lower level after 2 days. A comparison with Venerupis japonica seed suggests that Transennella may be used as a model for the response of seed littleneck clams to burial.
