A class of parallel operated impedance source inverters

Abstract

Realization of high power conversion system utilizing parallel connected power converters rated at much smaller power levels due to limitations in switching device voltage and current ratings would be highly desirable. Therefore, modular configured converters are imminent in high power industrial applications due to their numerous benefits over singular high capacity converter or inverter. They can be realized with reduced component stress by sharing the currents, ease of maintenance, modularity facilitating plug and play, higher reliability, and (N+1) redundancy. This papers presents a family of parallel connected Z-source inverters (ZSIs). This new class retains all the existing features of ZSIs with the added benefits of parallel connected inverters. Moreover, higher voltage gains and reduced ripples via interleaving are achieved with parallel configurations. A couple of parallel connected ZSIs are discussed in detail with theoretical analysis accompanied with simulation results for the verification purposes.
