The AC/DC hybrid topology for the future smart grid is a promising configuration that allows integrating the energy resources and modern loads of AC and DC type. Understanding the AC/DC hybrid microgrids (HMGs) operating in islanding mode and its operational philosophy will pave the road towards the future smart grid with a plug-and-play feature. This paper analyzes an operational aspect related to isolated AC/DC hybrid microgrids and that is the problem of inaccurate power sharing. The simulation results reveal that the unequal reactive power sharing in AC microgrids and the inexact active power sharing in DC microgrids will migrate to AC/DC hybrid microgrids. The research outcomes also show that the interlinking converters encounter the same problem of inexact power sharing.
