
Abstract This chapter focuses on the various avocado cultivars and rootstocks belonging to 2 main ecological groups, those adapted to subtropical climates and those best adapted to tropical lowland and warm to hot subtropical climates. Descriptions and attributes of these avocado cultivars and rootstocks are presented and the importance of breeding new cultivars with Phytophthora root rot resistance and desirable horticultural attributes for varying conditions is also discussed.
