
Abstract This chapter focuses on the taxonomy, ecology, morphology and physiology of bananas and plantains. The cultivar development and cultural practices for propagation, cultivation, fertilizer application, pest, weed and disease management and harvesting and postharvest handling are discussed and the utilization of different plant parts and the nutritive value of the fruits are also highlighted.
