
Although these were the first British stamps to feature England's greatest scientist, many other countries have depicted Isaac Newton on stamps. Some of these countries commemorated the 250th anniversary of Newton's death, in 1977; these include Mali and the Congo, which issued the stamps shown in Fig. 2, and Mongolia, which produced the nine-stamp miniature sheet shown in Fig. 3. Other Newton stamps have appeared in series featuring distinguished scientists or celebrating space travel. Figure 4 depicts various portraits of Isaac Newton on stamps.
