
There exists a close analogy between the theoretical procedure of classifying a domain of objects and the physical operation of segregationsl ordering of a collection of bodies, which in the simplest case consists in first forming a number of heaps of the elements of the collection to be ordered and then in arranging these heaps so as to form clusters of heaps and eventually also clusters of clusters of heaps, etc.
