The increased technological activity in the Arctic and Antarctic areas has brought into focus the field of ice mechanics as presented at the symposium. The main subjects were creep and failure of ice, but also engineering problems of ice forces, bearing capacity, icebreakers, icebergs and model ice testing have been covered.
