The insecticide Kelevan is the ethyl ester of a polychlorinated alicyclic carboxylic acid. Its empirical formula is C17H12O4Cl10). In the pesticide literature it is occasionally discussed together with the organochlorine compounds. Melnikow (1974), in his book “Chemistry and Technology of Pesticides” mentions it in the chapter on polychlorocyclodienes. In “Chemie der Pflanzenschutz- und Schadlingsbekampfungsmittel” (Agricultural Chemicals and Pesticides) edited by Wegler (1970) it is mentioned in the section on miscellaneous hydrocarbons.
