AbstractA lightweight, low‐cost antenna suitable for personal communication handsets is proposed. This antenna consists of two stacked quarter‐wavelength elements short‐circuited along the same plane. A slot was embedding in each patch to allow the achievement of two widebands, including GSM and DCS/PCS/UMTS system applications. The software design package IE3D was used and good agreement with the measured results was obtained. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
