AbstractProgram EPTS is designed and implemented for teaching 2D steady state (isotropic or anisotropic) confined or unconfined seepage studies in soil engineering. The program is written in Visual Basic and utilizes the methods of linear COONS patches for the generation of meshes of the seepage domain and the Galerkin finite element approximation for the derived simultaneous equations. A full mathematical description of COONS' linear patches and the Galerkin approximation of any planar region(s) are included. Several computer printouts of typical engineering problems are presented to illustrate the accuracy and exactness of the program. Comput. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
