Bioraznolikost morskih sisavaca u Jadranskome moru

Abstract

Biodiversity of marine mammals in the Adriatic Sea is very low and count only one permanent resident, Common bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), whose population is estimated from 250 to 300 units in the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea. Other species are occasional or rare residents. Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus) is critically endangered species, to be extinct. Species from Cetacean order (Cetacea) are occasional appearance in the Adriatic Sea, and some of the reasons for that are whaling, noise pollution or xenobiotics, relative tightness and inaccessibility of the whole Adriatic Sea area. Only Mysticeti species, which has been noticed in the Adriatic Sea in the last 30 years, is Fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus). All kinds of measures are being taken to make sure that number of mammal units in the sea will increase, many laws assure unobstructed life of the marine mammals, so as the researches whose goal is to improve conditions of life. It is required to make a detailed plan of management and supervision of the fish capacities in the Adriatic Sea, establish purification systems of waste water and keep public informed and educated through activities.
