In the present traditional society the many-leveled system of identity is typical of many ethnic groups. It becomes apparent in social-normative, material and spiritual cultures. Relations between contacting ethnoses under frontier conditions based on cultural proximity is not a guarantee against displays of inter-ethnic tension and conflicts. Nevertheless, in the ethno-cultural contact zone, which is the territory of the north-west of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District Yugra, the complementary character of relations between the Agan Khanty and the forest Nenets has been forming for many centuries. It excludes negative displays of inter-ethnic perception of cultural differences.

В современном традиционном обществе для многих этнических групп характерна многоуровневая система идентичности. Она проявляется в соционормативной, материальной, духовной культурах. Взаимодействие контактирующих этносов в условиях пограничья, основанное на культурной близости, не является гарантией от проявлений межэтнической напряженности и конфликтности. Тем не менее в этнокультурной контактной зоне, которой является территория северо-запада ХМАО-Югры, на протяжении веков сложился комплиментарный характер отношений между аганскими хантами и лесными ненцами, исключающий негативные проявления межэтнического восприятия культурных различий.
