Abstract

This paper presents a study about the emergence of the age-group social identity through documentation collected from inquiries of the Linguistic Atlas Project of Brazil (ALiB Project). One takes into consideration the identity linguistic approaches, mainly regarding age-group social identity. Considering language as a discursive practice that builds social identity representations, the empirical analysis is based of the ALiB Project, with the aim of verifying the tendencies of the informers to mark their speech temporally. Starting from the analysis performed, one could observe that the linguistic resources found in the interviews show that the age-group identity depends basically on the time category, because it acts in this kind of language as an organizing element in the elaboration of the speech, clearly shown in two poles – the before and the now – aiming at the desired appositions between past and present, typical of speeches belonging to an older age-group.
