Knowing does not understand; both are entirely different. We may know many people, but very few people can truly understand us. People who can understand you also comprehend silence, other cultures, and languages; all of this helps bridge gaps and allows for a deeper understanding of others. Understanding others is a precious gift in life. However, in today's world, many people face pressure due to their inability to understand others. Various associated factors contribute to this challenge. Nevertheless, there are different social skills that can be developed, such as understanding personalities, interpreting non-verbal cues, grasping generational traits, active listening, effective communication, and giving and receiving feedback. Learning from failure provides opportunities to improve these social skills. In this regard, several strategies need to be applied, such as showing care, concern, consideration, and complete listening. Avoiding bias and being nonjudgmental are also crucial. Maintaining a positive attitude is important as well. Furthermore, pay attention to your listening habits. Avoid detrimental habits like ambushing listening, pseudo-listening, and incomplete listening. Additionally, the culture of response plays an important role. Adopt a connected listening approach rather than a guarded one. Be attentive, assertive, and balanced in your responses.
