The article elucidates the essence and structure of the decision-making competence in a manner that may be easily accessible to teachers. Decision-making is an important life skill: while most decisions we make are trivial and do not have a lasting impact, others may change our lives in a major way. Today’s schools must face the challenges related to globalization and the uncertainties of a market economy, which cause even more changes in education. One of these challenges is to explore the prospective nature of education: the design, organization, and structuring of the chosen educational approach in accordance with the demands of the present day, but, above all, in coordination with the defining features of the society of the future, which requires the teachers to be immersed in a permanent decision-making process in order not to resist change.
