Hydrocoryne sp. (Figure 5A–C) Material examined 2 colonies, polyp, without gonophores; Caleritas Beach, La Paz Bay, Baja California Sur, 24.350°N, 110.290°W; depth 0–1 m, 30 April 2017; on rock; ECO-CH-Z 11774. Identification (after Rees 1957) Hydroids colonial unbranching. Exoskeleton thin over most colonies, terminating at hydranth base. Hydranth with a blunt conical hypostome and a slightly broader tentacular region with capitate tentacles arranged generally alternate in position. Tentacles arranged in five circles, having a nematocyst knob at their terminal end. The nematocyst knobs are spherical, smooth, and with stenotele and microbasic eurytele nematocysts. Distribution This constitutes a new record of the genus Hydrocoryne for the Gulf of California. In the MP, the medusa stage of Hydrocoryne miurensis Stechow, 1908, has been recorded in Guerrero (Bigelow 1909). Remarks Distinction between species of the genus Hydrocoryne is based on the medusa stage.
