Deliverable 5.1 aims to implement a theoretical framework to define Safe-by-Design and Sustainability-by-Design approaches for High Aspect Ratio Nanoparticles and Multicomponent Nanomaterials. Potential hazards (human hazard, environmental release, and exposure levels) will be addressed by Safe-by-Material-Design strategies through physicochemical changes, either size-related modifications or chemical surface engineering. Every design must ensure functionality before calculating any variation on hazards or exposure risks. These strategies will be evaluated not only for hazard minimization, but also for Sustainability-by-Design concepts such as Environmental Life Cycle Assessment and Life Cycle Costing. Safe-by-Process-Design approaches will be applied as well to minimize exposure levels through risk management measures. All these strategies and approaches will be implemented in a Decision Support System which provides a final report to summarize every point evaluated. Therefore, companies will be able to choose an approach that fits their needs better.

| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 0 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Average | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
