In the era of the transition towards electric vehicles (EVs), new services and tools are needed in order to facilitate the use of such vehicles. In this paper, a new tool is designed to optimally plan the long distance trips with an EV. The trip planner tool is realized by using MATLAB software. It implements an algorithm that, based on the EV battery model and on the charging stations information available on the route from departure to destination, determines the best itinerary in terms of travel time and cost, minimizing the charge stops. The prototype of the trip planner tool is demonstrated by a real case study.
