DNA detected biodiversity in cryptic habitats – prioritisation of sampling

Abstract

This BioDT use case will help researchers and monitoring initiatives to prioritize localities for further sampling with eDNA metabarcoding. New samples will update the model and recalculate priorities. DNA-based efficiently target organisms that normally receive little attention, e.g. fungi, bacteria, protists and micro-invertebrates. Methods are simple and cost-effective, also at scales where traditional sampling regimes would be too costly in terms of money and labour. To be able to include such data in global biodiversity conservation efforts, it is necessary with a wider global sampling. This case-study will help prioritize areas based on current knowledge and user-defined criteria such as geographical scope, targeted landscapes and habitats, taxonomic scope, and/or custom parameters.
