Abstract

Mots clés : Mangue, Mouches des fruits, performance, technico-économique, Burkina Faso Abstract This article examines the technico-economic performance of the use of local yeast-based food bait compared to the commercialized food bait (Success bait) for the control of mango fruit flies in Burkina Faso. The experimental set-up used is a scattered block with five treatments (Untreated control (T0); SA: Success-Bait (T1); LJ: pure local food bait (T2); LJ25: local food bait diluted at 25% (T3); LJ50: local food bait diluted at 50% (T4)) installed in three mango orchards of at least 7 ha each. Each orchard is a replication and the mango variety chosen is the late maturing variety - Brooks. For the calculation of economic profitability, the partial budget method was used. The results showed that the different doses of the local food bait innovation resulted in low fruit fly attack rates of T3 (15%), T4 (21%) and T2 (22%) compared to Success-Bait T1 (27%) as the reference product. The agronomic analysis showed that the local food bait diluted at 25% had the best yield (11 865 kg/ha). Economically, the local food bait diluted to 25% was the only one that recorded the marginal rate of return (161%) considering the untreated control as reference. This result is confirmed with the sensitivity analysis. The local food bait diluted at 25% could be recommended to mango producers in view of its technical efficiency and economic profitability.
