Regional-scale airborne magnetic and radiometric data in the Northern Territory, Australia, has been acquired by the Northern Territory Government, Commonwealth Government and exploration industry since the 1970s. The quality of these individual surveys vary with advances in data processing and storage, survey design and acquisition systems. Regional-scale compilations of these data are created by merging grids of these individual surveys together with the aim of creating a seamless image. These magnetic and radiometric compilations do not convey the variation in quality of the underlying datasets, however derivative grids do show the underlying diversity in data quality. In 2022 the Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS) collaborated with Intrepid Geophysics to audit the compilation of regional-scale airborne magnetic and radiometric data in the Northern Territory. The project assessed 63 individual Survey Projects which each contained multiple individual Survey Parts of varying age and quality. The outcomes of this audit are being used to improve the useability of existing data and inform future acquisition projects.
