Around 45% of food and food items produced in India are squandered each year because of the high proportion of food wastage. India remains a serious issue under the Global Hunger Index. There is a tremendous need of building up effective food traceability in the nation. There are a few techniques created in India and are currently being used in various food industries. However, they have a few disadvantages too. The government framed APEDA and FSSAI to keep up the security and standard of different food items, mainly when exporting Indian products. Using new technology and the internet appropriately, machine learning, building scientific models, and frameworks for traceability of products, the future bearing of traceability mechanisms would prompt substantially more efficient and easier to understand the observation of products. Presently, India needs bulk storage, cold storage, and maintenance of the items. Henceforth, a proficient and easy-to-understand food traceability framework should be set up to dodge wastage and degradation and ensure the items’ safety and quality.
