Abstract

El propósito de la investigación fue determinar la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento del cuidador de pacientes con la enfermedad de Alzheimer y las prácticas de autocuidado que utiliza. Este estudio fue no experimental de tipo cuantitativo descriptivo correlacional. La investigación se llevó a cabo utilizando como participación cuidadores de personas o pacientes con la enfermedad de Alzheimer. Estos cuidadores representaron ser hijos(as), tíos(as) u alguna persona emparentada con la persona con Alzheimer o profesionales de enfermería en centros de cuidado, personas encargadas de estos pacientes. La muestra constó de 75 cuidadores. Los resultados obtenidos confirman no existe relación entre el nivel de conocimiento del cuidador de pacientes con la enfermedad de Alzheimer y las prácticas de autocuidado que utiliza. Por el contrario, se encontró relación significativa entre las prácticas de autocuidado que utiliza el cuidador de pacientes con la enfermedad de Alzheimer y el “burnout” o el estrés (Ansiedad). Esto da a entender que los cuidadores de pacientes o familiares de Alzheimer no están utilizando las prácticas de autocuidado de manera correspondiente y de forma continua para su beneficio en la disminución de ansiedades y estrés a causa del cuido del paciente o familiar con Alzheimer.
