Through the analysis of some exemplary finds, the paper explores the phenomenon of the reuse of parchment documents as recycled binding material, as a first step towards the start of specific research. The case studies considered come from the notarial protocols of the ‘Atti dei notai’ fund of the State Archives of Trento, where the project of census and cataloguing of medieval codex fragments has been completed. In particular, a comparison of the various ways of reuse of parchment, whether taken from documents or manuscript books, reveals important data that help us understand and deepen our knowledge of the phenomenon as a whole.
