Abstract

Laṭâ’if-alma’nawî min ḥaḳâ’iḳ-almathnawî. This manuscript is now IO Islamic 1101 in the India Office collections. [metadata: Hermann Ethé, Catalogue of Persian Manuscripts in the Library of the India Office, 2 vols. (Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1, number 382 here with notations and hyperlinks]. 1101 Laṭâ’if-alma’nawî min ḥaḳâ’iḳ-almathnawî ( لطائف المعنوى من حقائق المثنوى). A commentary on the mathnawî, by ‘Abd-allaṭîf bin ‘Abdallâh al-’Abbâsî, the compiler of the critical edition of the poem, styled نسخۀ ناسخه (see Nos. 1088-1090 in this Cat.), and of the special glossary to the same, the لطائف اللغات (Nos. 1091-1097 above). It is dedicated to the empror Shâhjahân, and explains difficult Persian verses, Arabic phrases, quotations from the Ḳurân, etc.; comp. Rieu ii. p. 590; A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 494; and W. Pertsch, Berlin Cat., pp. 794 and 795. Lithographed at Lucknow, 1866; at Cawnpore, 1876. Beginning: شرح بعضى ابيات مشكلۀ فارسی و ترجمۀ اشعار معضله و دیباچهای تازئ مثنوئ مولوئ معنوى و برخى از فوائد الخ. The original Arabic preface of Daftar I, on fol. 4a. Daftar I, on fol. 6a; II, on fol. 50b; III, on fol. 88a; IV, on fol. 135b; V, on fol. 164b; VI, on fol. 199b. Dated the 4th of Jumâdâ-althânî, A.H. 1080 (A.D. 1669, Oct. 30). The first owner of the copy was Shaikh Muḥammad Amjad, A descendant of Shaikh Ḥamîd Zain-aldîn alja’farî alzainabî. Occasionally glosses and additions on the margin.
