In the first half of twentieth century Rabindranath confronted with the-then British conventional education system. He strongly opposed to the colonial nature of the existing system and wanted to introduce his own concept which was based on Brahmacharyashramand which was mingled with ancientTapobaneducation system of India. Through his various and tireless writings, he preached and established his own education system. He also preached equivocally for the mother tongue as the medium of instruction throughout almost all level of education. According to him, complete education should be activity-oriented, curriculum-packed education. Education in between the lap of nature is more essential for man-making. He advocated for free non-formal education with moral values. He expressed his ideas of education through ‘AshramerRup O Bikash’Prabandhamala. He liked ancient Vedic Indian education but wanted to practise that with real scientific outlook. At the fag-end of his life he thought deeply and earnestly for nurturing mass education. He and his few close associates wrote some hooks and booklets for helping to spread out mass education in the remotest corner of the country. His missions for spreading mass education were to build an economically and socially prosperous nation.
