For synonymy, see Kaas & Van Belle (1985 b). Distribution: Mostly tropical and subtropical regions of the Indo-Pacific (including Japan; absent from the northeastern Pacific). In the Atlantic Ocean, restricted to the eastern and southern (sub-Antarctic) parts. Oligocene – Recent.
