Matthiola W.T. Aiton, Hort. Kew. ed. 2, 4: 119. 1812[nom. cons.]. Tribe: Anchonieae DC. Notes. – A taxonomically difficult genus of 52 species much in need of thorough systematic and molecular studies throughout its range. Although the study of JAÉN-MOLINA et al. (2009) is a good starting point, substantial more work is needed to resolve many of the taxonomic problems.
