Warhol-Algorithmus. Ein designbasierter Forschungsansatz zur Verknüpfung der Fachbereiche Medien & Informatik und Bildnerisches Gestalten.

Abstract

English Programming is a big challenge for many teachers at primary level and despite the compulsory nature of the curriculum, they do not venture into the subject or only implement it very superficially. Therefore, it is important to understand what characteristics teaching materials should have in order to best support teachers in getting started with programming. The aim of this master’s thesis was to motivate teachers to include a programming sequence in their lessons. Teachers who had little or no experience with this topic were targeted. To this end, two research questions were posed: How can a teaching unit on the disciplines of art and computer science be designed to facilitate teachers' entry into the subject of programming? What characteristics should teaching materials have in order to support teachers as best as possible in their introduction to programming? To answer the research questions, the first step was to review the current state of research. Based on this, a series of lessons was designed that consists of both a visual arts part and a programming part. Using the method of design-based research, the series of lessons was evaluated, revised and optimised in several cycles. In addition, teachers were interviewed by means of guided interviews in order to obtain additional information about the characteristics of the teaching material in the area of programming. The results of the interviews show that the resulting teaching unit was able to support teachers in their introduction to programming and that teaching materials with positive characteristics play a major role in the introduction to the subject of programming. With didactic materials in the field of programming, it is important for teachers that the level of difficulty and the technical terminology of the texts are adapted to their low level of prior knowledge. It has also been shown that interdisciplinary teaching materials help teachers to get started with programming, as teachers can combine challenging programming tasks with content that is familiar to them.
