Megacyllene decora

Abstract

Megacyllene decora (Olivier, 1800); Chlorophorini [new state record] Distribution: Southern OH to OK to MN. Kentucky collections were from sites on the shores of the Ohio River (Interior Plateau and Mississippi Alluvial Plain; Map 098). Kentucky counties: Carroll (1), Fulton (2) Years: 2002 (1), 2003 (1), 2021 (1) Months: September (3) Collections (3 records, 3 specimens): CMNH (2), iNat (1) Collection methods: nr Larval host plants: Amorpha fruticosa (Rice 1989) Adult flower hosts: Eutrochium and Solidago (Bousquet et al. 2017) Comments: Its larval host plant is a shrub that grows on the banks and islands of larger rivers. Based on collections made by EGC in Ohio, it would not be surprising if this species occurs sporadically along the Ohio River in Kentucky wherever A. fruticosa grows and adults should be present on flowers (especially Solidago) in September and October.
