IMPACT OF YEARLONG PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ON GOVERNMENT SCHOOL TEACHERS

Abstract

The 2021 UNESCO report was hard hitting and was titled No teacher, No class1. This report chaired by Dr. Padma Sarangapani of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences under the guidance of UNESCO officials highlighted that by 2030 there will be lack of trained teachers in Indian classrooms. While systemic teacher training exists across the country, and there are organisations that work in teacher training2, but interventions which focus on pedagogies and classroom teaching with teachers were not too many. With this aim in mind, Aditya Birla Education Academy’s Project Samarth planned to upskill 2400 teachers from English Medium Schools of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation3. This yearlong capacity building program trained teachers from different subject groups for 20 hours each. The goal of Project Samarth is to improve the quality of teacher-learning processes to create a powerful educator workforce as they nurture the next generation, our future.With the pandemic teachers felt the need for upskilling more than at any point in time
