Annual Rainfall Variability In Solapur District: A Geographical Study (Mh)

Abstract

Solapur district is a district in Maharashtra state of India the city of Solapur is the district headquarters it is located on the south east age of the state and lies and tally in the Bhima and Cena basis the entire district is drained by the Bhima river. Solapur district can broadly divide into three natural zones the eastern zone comparison Barshi, North Solapur, South Solapur and Akkalkot talukas has medium to Deep black soil to some extent get assured rainfall and, in this area, Jawar, Bajra and pulses are grown. The central are the transitional zone comprising Mohol, Manalwedha, eastern part of the Pandharpur and Madha taluka has uncertain rainfall, light to medium soil and grows kharif and Rabi crops. The Western Zone comprises scarcity areas of Karmala, Sangola and Malshiras taluka's and Western part of Madha and Pandharpur taluka's with lighter soil and uncertain rainfall. In karmala Pandharpur and mada taluka Rabi crops are mainly grown.Move over kharif crops such as Bajra and Oilseeds in Sangola taluka are also grown. large part of Malshiras taluka received protection from scarcity due to the irrigation provided by Nira right Bank Canal; so, sugarcane is a major crop in this area. There are very little variations in the climate in different parts of the district. The climate is dry and hot in all the part of the district expect that portion of Barshi taluka which lies above the Ghats where it is somewhat coolest than in the rest of the district. All over the district the rainfall is uncertain and scanty with an annual average of 989.12 mm; district gets rain from South West as well as North East monsoon. the paucity of rainfall and large variations both in the extend and the distribution
