TYPE LOCALITY: Argentina, Buenos Aires, "Les Pampas" south of Rio de la Plata between 35° and 36° south (Azara, 1801: 164). DISTRIBUTION: Gran Chaco of Bolivia, Paraguay, and Argentina south to Santa Cruz, Argentina, and Magallanes, Chile. SYNONYMS: octocinctus Molina, 1782 (preoccupied).
