Lunch Lecture at the Central Bureau for Statistics, Netherlands - 14 October, 2022 A short tour of Citizen Science and its impacts Anouk Spelt (Citizen Science Nederland - Community Manager) and Margaret Gold (Citizen Science Lab, University Leiden) Citizen science is scientific research conducted, in whole or in part, by amateur (or nonprofessional) scientists. Application ranges from Citizen Observatories (COs) for environmental monitoring, to Citizen Gathered Data (CGD) for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this workshop the Citizen Science Lab at Leiden University will present some of the different forms that Citizen Science can take and the types of impacts such initiatives can have. We will initiate a conversation on what the potential value for CBS could be, and the role that the CBS can play in the Citizen Science landscape in the Netherlands.
