Sasajiscymnus flexus Tong & Wang, sp. nov.

Abstract

Sasajiscymnus flexus Tong & Wang sp. nov. (Figs 40, 70) Chinese name: 曲叶ḧ瓢• Diagnosis. This species is similar to S. lancetapicalis (Pang & Gordon, 1986), but can be distinguished from the later by the penis guide apically pointed in ventral view (Fig. 40h). In S. lancetapicalis, penis guide is apically blunt in ventral view (Fig. 43h). Description. TL: 1.90–2.18 mm, TW: 1.40–1.60 mm, TH: 1.01–1.14 mm. Body oval, moderately convex, surfaces covered with short pubescence (Figs 40a–c). Head yellow with interocular distance distinctly greater than eye width in frontal view. Pronotum yellow. Scutellar shield yellowish brown. Elytra black with yellow apices and brown humeral angles. Ventral surfaces yellow to black. Legs yellow. Abdominal postcoxal lines incomplete, recurved toward the base of ventrite (Fig. 40d). Male genitalia: Penis stout, penis capsule with stout outer arm and long inner one, apex of penis constricted with distinct membranous appendage (Figs 40e–f). Penis guide with prominent keel at base in lateral view, then tapering towards pointed apex; parameres about 2/3 as long as penis guide, with a tuft of long setae at apex; penis guide approximately parallel sided for basal 1/ 2 in ventral view, then gradually narrowing to pointed apex (Figs 40g –h). Female genitalia: Unknown. Type material. Holotype: China: Hainan: ♂, Bawangling National Nature Reserve, 5.V.2005, Wang XM leg (SCAU). Paratype (SCAU): China: Yunnan: 1♂, Botanic Garden, Jinghong City, 22.VIII.2005, Wang XM leg. Distribution. China (Hainan, Yunnan). Etymology. The specific epithet flexus derives from the Latin word “flexus” and refers to the flexural penis guide in lateral view.
