DISTRIBUTION: W Tien Shan Mtns, in S Kazakhstan and NW Kirgizia. STATUS: IUCN - Vulnerable. SYNONYMS: zachidovi Petrov, 1963. COMMENTS: Regarded by Ellerman and Morrison-Scott (1951:514) as a probable synonym of marmota; but see Corbet (1978c:81).
