Abstract

The introduction of digital technologies in the academic research scenario has triggered new publishing models, dissemination of e-prints, increased contacts and collaboration among researchers, giving rise to new digital platforms such as Academic Social Networks (ASN). However, these new ways of access complicate the distinction between access and copying, and it is in this context that the self-archiving policies of scientific journals arise, which contribute to the protection of intellectual property in the digital environment. At the time of deposit in ASN, a pattern of non-compliance with these policies is revealed, which is mainly due to their complexity and variety. Thus, it is considered relevant to detect these behaviors in scientific and academic institutions, in order to alert to their consequences and raise awareness of good practices. The general objective of this proposal is to verify if the production present in ASN is made available taking into account the compliance with the self-archiving policies corresponding to the deposited version. For its fulfillment, in addition to the literature review on editorial policies and academic social networks, it is intended, through a case study in two research centers in the area of sciences present in ResearchGate, to obtain indicators that allow concluding on the awareness and the elaboration of recommendations, in line with the good use of this social network.

A introdução das tecnologias digitais no cenário da investigação académica desencadeou novos modelos de publicação, divulgação de e-prints, aumento de contactos e da colaboração entre investigadores, dando também origem a novas plataformas digitais como as Redes Sociais Académicas (RSA). Todavia, estas novas formas de acesso complicam a distinção entre acesso e cópia, sendo neste contexto que surgem as políticas de auto-arquivo das revistas científicas, que concorrem para a proteção da propriedade intelectual em ambiente digital. No momento de depósito em RSA, revela-se um padrão para o incumprimento destas políticas, que se prende, sobretudo, com a sua complexidade e variedade. Considera-se, assim, relevante a deteção destas condutas nas instituições científicas e académicas, para alertar para as suas consequências e sensibilizar para as boas práticas. O objetivo geral desta proposta é verificar se a produção presente em RSA é disponibilizada tendo em consideração o cumprimento das políticas de auto-arquivo correspondentes à versão depositada. Para o seu cumprimento, além da revisão da literatura sobre políticas editoriais e redes sociais académicas, pretende-se, através de um estudo de caso em dois centros de investigação na área das ciências presentes no ResearchGate, obter indicadores que permitam concluir sobre a sensibilização e a elaboração de recomendações, em linha com a boa utilização desta rede social.
