Formerly included in Lagurus; Gromov and Polyakov, 1977, [Voles (Microtinae), Fauna U.S. S. R.], Nauka, Moscow and Leningrad, 3(8):169, elevated Eolagurus to full generic rank and regarded przewalskii as a distinct species, op. cit., p. 174; they were followed by Sokolov and Orlov, 1980:139, and Gromov and Baranova, 1981: 184.
