However, considered a distinct genus by Woods and Howland, 1979, J. Mammal., 60: 112, and Miller, 1929, Smithson. Mise. Coll., 82(4):1 —3. GSM considers Geocapromys a distinct genus. Includes G. columbianus and G. pleistocenicus, known only from fossils, probably Holocene, from Cuba; see Hall, 1981:866. ISIS NUMBER: 5301410024002000000 as Geocapromys. 5301410024002002001 for G. columbianus.
