Chapter 5.2: Society – Development of the First Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR1) published by MedECC in November 2020. Climate and environmental change cause a wide range of impacts on human health in Mediterranean countries. The vulnerability of people to the impacts of climate and environmental change is strongly influenced by population density, level of economic development, food availability, income level and distribution, local environmental conditions, pre-existing health status, and the quality and availability of public health care. Poorer countries, particularly in North Africa and the Levant, are at highest risk.
