This repository contains modified code (LLi2022GMD.CAM6.α) of Community Atmosphere Model (Version 6.1) embedded within the Community Earth System Model (Version 2.1) with (1) the physically based dust emission parametrization originally developed by Kok et al. (2014ab, Atmos. Chem. Phys.), (2) the dry deposition parameterization originally developed by Petroff and Zhang (2010, Geosci. Model Dev.), and (3) the lifetime effect of dust asphericity. Also included here is data (observations: LLi2022GMD.Observations.tar.gz plus model results: LLi2022GMD.Model.Outputs.tar.gz) for assessing the modified model performance in reproducing the observed dust cycle and resultant dust-radiation interactions in the current climate. Please refer to the article by Li et al. (2022; Geosci. Model Dev.) for (1) the detailed model assessment, (2) documentation of how these implementations change the dust cycle modeling and resultant climatic effect in the current climate, and (3) detailed model configurations to reproduce the main results: Li, L., Mahowald, N., Kok, J., Liu, X., Wu, M., Leung, D., Hamilton, D., Emmons, L., Huang, Y., Meng, J., Sexton, N., and Wan, J.: Importance of different parameterization changes for the updated dust cycle modelling in the Community Atmosphere Model (version 6.1), Geosci. Model Dev. Discuss. [preprint], https://doi.org/10.5194/gmd-2022-31, in review, 2022. Contact Longlei Li (ll859@cornell.edu) or Natalie M.
