Body of moderate size (TL 3.8–4.7 mm), colouration variable, elytral interspaces shining. Certain identification possible only on the basis of genital characters: trigonium of penis triangularly pointed at apex, slightly shorter than parameroids, parameroids with triangular apices, basal portion of pala emarginated; central portion of bursal sclerite with single tubercle. Description. Male. Body elongated, moderately big (TL 4.2–4.7 mm), moderately convex. Coloration variable: from entirely yellowish brown to black, sometimes elytra yellowish with black suture. Punctation on head weakly granulate, punctures separated by ca. 0.3× diameter of a puncture. Punctation on pronotum granulate on sides, punctures close to each other, punctures separated by ca. 0.5× diameter of a puncture and simple in the middle, getting more sparse towards the end of pronotum, separated by 1.0–3.0× diameters of a puncture. Punctation on elytra simple, coarse, punctures separated by 0.3–1.0 (rarely 2.0)× diameter of a puncture. Body very shiny, covered with two types of whitish, protruding setae: medium long, and visibly longer and even more protruding. Supraantennal ridges well-marked, elevated. Pronotum widest slightly before middle of its length, sides bisinuate, anterolateral angles produced, pointed triangularly, posterolateral angles right-angled; base of pronotum with longitudinal depression along posterior margin. Lateral carinae slightly crenulate. Elytra without carinae, humeri well-marked. Ventrite 5 rounded, apex delicately truncate. Penis (L 0.76 mm, W 0.59 mm) relatively wide, with explanate lateral lobes, trigonium pointed at apex, triangular, slightly shorter than parameroids; parameroids elongated, apices with serrated edge, covered with punctures, apices triangular, pointed; pala very wide, triangular, about same length parameroids, with shallow emargination in basal portion. Tegmen (L 0.69 mm, W 0.52 mm) with wide triangular parameres, apices acute, with scarce punctures and setae. Female. Body of moderate size (TL 3.8–4.5 mm), brachypterous. Coloration and punctation like in males. Supraantennal ridges well-marked, elevated. Pronotum more transverse than in males. Ventrite 5 rounded, with small semicircular emargination at apex. Lateral portions of ventrites 3 and 4 with large, oblique setal patches. Bursal sclerite (L 0.20 mm, W 0.23 mm), consisting of interconnected plates—two lateral ones, wrapped around and single central plate with median tubercle. Measurements and ratios. Males (n = 7) TL 4.20–4.65 mm (4.44 mm), PL 0.65–0.80 mm (0.74 mm), PW 1.25–1.40 mm (1.31 mm), EL 3.50–3.90 mm (3.68 mm), EW 1.90–2.15 mm (1.99 mm), TL/EW 2.09–2.33 (2.24), PW/PL 1.67–1.92 (1.79), EL/EW 1.74–1.95 (1.85), EL/PL 4.67–5.62 (5.02), EW/PW 1.41–1.60 (1.51). Females (n = 5) TL 3.80–4.45 mm (4.15 mm), PL 0.60–0.70 mm (0.66 mm), PW 1.15–1.45 mm (1.35 mm), EL 3.25–3.70 mm (3.49 mm), EW 1.90–2.15 mm (2.04 mm), TL/EW 1.95–2.10 (2.03), PW/PL 1.92–2.15 (2.04), EL/EW 1.66–1.76 (1.71), EL/PL 5.14–5.42 (5.29), EW/PW 1.46–1.65 (1.52). Distribution. Recorded from scattered localities on west coast of South Island— Nelson, Buler, and Westland areas (Fig. 18G). Etymology. After Paparoa Range, one of the areas where type specimens were collected.
